This morning I upgraded from XQuartz 2.7.9 to XQuartz 2.7.10. The upgraded server does not seem to start properly. The icon of the new XQuartz appears in the dock, but the little "I'm running" dot never appears beneath it. The server does not show up in the task-switching pop-up (Command-Tab). It *does* show up in the list of things that I can "Force Quit...". I tried reinstalling XQuartz 2.7.10 by downloading the ".dmg" file. The behavior was unchanged: the server never seems to start (and obviously, no clients start). I don't know how to diagnose the problem further; I don't know what logs to look at, if any. I would be happy to provide logs if I knew where to look! I reinstalled XQuartz 2.7.9 on my machine, and that server starts fine. My machine identified itself as: iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) Other: 4GHz Intel Core i7; 32GB 1867 MHz DDR3; AMD Radeon R9 M395 2048MB Running: OS X El Capitan (10.11.6) Thanks--- Eric.
When in this state, take a sysdiagnose by running `sudo sysdiagnose -q` and attache the diagnostic tarball to this ticket.
I have the output from 2 runs of sysdiagnose with 2.7.10 running on macOS 10.11.6 el Capitan, however they are too large to attach to the ticket. Is there an alternate file host you recommend so I can provide these to you.
After I upgraded from 2.7.9 to 2.7.10 I got the following error when trying to launch an x-windows application (xmgrace): Warning: Widget must be a VendorShell. Warning: Fatal Error: _XmGetDefaultDisplay cannot be used prior to VendorS.Initialize, returns NULL Oops! Got SIGSYS Please use "Help/Comments" to report the bug. Abort
James, that has nothing to do with this ticket. That's a bug in Motif, for which we provide a workaround: sudo mv /opt/X11/lib/libXt.6.dylib{,.bak} sudo cp /opt/X11/lib{/flat_namespace,}/libXt.6.dylib
I have the same exact problem as Eric with my updated XQuartz (2.7.10) fails to start as described by Eric. I also have Mac OS 10.11.6
Did you follow the prompt that you got during installation which told you to logout and log back in?
