My bug is different from that of the OP. I have bisected the problem to commit 69df05e11ab8 ("drm/i915: Simplify releasing context reference") and appears to be a race condition during a context put. Reverting the above commit fixes my system.

Lately I have not noticed any GPU Hangs reported. So it may be that the issue got fixed in between.
