GPU crash dump

Running Fedora 25 on a Intel NUC 6i5SYH with Intel Iris Graphics 540 causes GPU hangs at right after the boot (gdm). It happens always, no chance to login.

[ 304.645809] [drm] GPU HANG: ecode 9:0:0x85df7efb, in Xorg [13399], reason: Hang on render ring, action: reset
[ 304.645812] [drm] GPU hangs can indicate a bug anywhere in the entire gfx stack, including userspace.
[ 304.645814] [drm] Please file a _new_ bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org against DRI -> DRM/Intel
[ 304.645816] [drm] drm/i915 developers can then reassign to the right component if it's not a kernel issue.
[ 304.645818] [drm] The gpu crash dump is required to analyze gpu hangs, so please always attach it.

I tried to disable wayland and play around with different xorg config.
Using "intel" as a driver did never work. It only works with the following config (but without hw acceleration):
Section "Device"
	Identifier "Intel Graphics"
	Driver "modesetting"
	Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection

Comment 1 yann 2017-01-23 08:58:09 UTC
Mathias Dietz, the error from the gpu crash dump should be fixed already in xf86-video-intel (thanks to https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel/commit/?id=4acd4a7d3d2f41227022fa7581cfb85a0b124eae)

So I recommend to update to latest version of xf86-video-intel and then use SNA.
An alternate solution is to use Glamor/modesetting, but 1st try this one.

Thanks
Comment 2 Mathias Dietz 2017-01-23 22:08:11 UTC
I rebuild the fedora source rpm with the patch, but the problem still happens. In fact when using the "intel" driver it does not even detect the device (with our without patch)

Hello Mathias,
Is this still occurring with latest kernel. Could you please provide full dmesg with drm.debug=0xe parameter on grub and new error state with your latest configuration? Thank you.

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for getting back to me.
Meanwhile I got a hardware replacement and I verified today that the problem is gone. Looks like the Hardware was broken.
I'll close the bug.

Thanks
