dmesg

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron with a Radeon R7 M260/M265 [Topaz XT] - as reported by lspci, and I'm having problems after suspending it - by closing the lid and opening it again - notebook freezes, so I need to reboot it.
Noticed some AMDGPU related errors on dmesg, which made me suspect of this driver. And in fact, blacklisting it prevented freeze after suspending. Attached is `dmesg`. Please let me know if there's something else I can do to help.

Thanks for any help,

What is the kernel version that you are using?
Comment 2 Ederson 2017-02-20 22:48:53 UTC
In the `dmesg` attachment I've sent, I was using 4.9.8. I've just updated to 4.9.9 on Arch, and the issue is still here.
Comment 3 Nayan Deshmukh 2017-02-23 05:00:46 UTC
I am unable to reproduce the error that you are facing. I also have a dell inspiron 5548, but it did not freeze on suspending with 4.9.9. You have a bios which is more recent than what I have, so it could be a reason for this problem.

Hope this helps.

I have a Lenovo Ideapad 320-15abr with an AMD Radeon R7 M265 2 GB and whenever I suspend in kubuntu 18.04 (what I had before) and more recently linux mint cinnamon 19 it will freeze and display a very garbled screen.

Your kernel is a bit old, please try a later kernel - 4.18 for example to see if you still experience this sort of problem.
Comment 6 copperly 2018-08-29 14:57:50 UTC
I am running 4.15.0-33-generic, which is up to date with cinnamon's repositories. Should I really try to upgrade? I beleive when I was on kubuntu and having the same problem I was running 4.17 or 4.18.
Comment 7 Andrey Grodzovsky 2018-08-29 15:08:24 UTC
Well, your dmesg shows 4.9 kernel which is really old, so I would give a try.
If you still have it on 4.18 a new log can be more useful to look at.
I think you can always just manually install *.deb packages on your system without any distro upgrades.

Just try directly installing packages from here using sudo dpkg -i *.deb

How did you get my dmesg? I never posted it (I signed up for bugzilla just so I could add to this thread, I have never used this before) and I was wondeering if upgrading the kernel before it has been tested by linux mint would there be a high risk of breaking my system. I'm using this for school and I need it to be stable.

here is my system info as supplied by the "system info" app

(I am willing to send more command outputs if needed)
Comment 9 Andrey Grodzovsky 2018-08-30 17:11:02 UTC
What i meant is i looked at the dmesg which was already attached to the ticket.
Anyway, as I said, even 4.15 is a bit old, so I would advise to give a try to latest kernel. And if the problem is still there obviously attach dmesg.

I downloaded kernel 4.18 and it seems to be working. (I must have looked crazy opening and closing my laptop lid over and over again :) )
Thank you so much for your help

Glad to hear that.

Seems to work in latest kernel.
