If i boot the kernel with nomodeset the screen is visible but if I don't pass it the scrren becomes black while loading. The OS doesn't hang because I can connect to it though ssh and get some logs.

Please add drm.debug=14 module parameter, *without* nomodeset, and attach dmesg again.

No clues in the logs that I can see. Can you try drm-tip branch of https://cgit.freedesktop.org/drm-tip please?
I'll try to build it. I tried to boot ubuntu-16.04.1 from live usb. The same problem: when it begins to boot the display becomes black. But when it's loaded if I press The power button on the computer case the display turns on and everything becomes visible.

I tried to connect the display to the pc with a VGA cable and everything works now. The problem persists only if I use a DisplayPort cable for connection.

Hello Andrew, Is the problem still present? Have you done any change on HW or SW additional to the drm-tip? Thank you.
There is no such problem now, everything works fine. I'm on debian 9 with kernel 4.9.30-2+deb9u2.

Thank you for your answer, Seems that the problem was fixed in newer kernel then. I'm closing this bug, if there is any new information on this case please open a new bug and share the logs and information.
