When using the thor map of the sauerbraten game version 20080620 many textures are flashing with different colours. Game options are the default after doing a rm -rf .sauerbraten/ (i.e. shaders enabled). When changing from the game options textures quality to low (from default of high) this problem disappear and this map also gain higher fps. I am using current git compiled without libdrm_radeon and without KMS: GL_RENDERER = Mesa DRI R300 (RV530 71C5) 20090101 x86/MMX/SSE2 TCL
Note that with sauerbraten 20090504 shaders and texture quality are default to off, and the map thor can be loaded with "load map..." -> "3" -> "thor". The bug is still here, however, even with current git master.
Are you able to reproduce this bug on current mesa_7_7_branch?

I just noticed that this problem appears only when libtxc_dxtn.so is *NOT* available.

Can you check if the problem is still reproducible under KMS?
(In reply to comment #6) > Can you check if the problem is still reproducible under KMS? It isn't reproducible with KMS, even while running it with MESA_EXTENSION_OVERRIDE=-GL_EXT_framebuffer_object
I suspect the problem is with UMS texture manager, and I don't think that anyone is willing to spend some time to work on this, so I recommend using the KMS.
Note that I do use KMS here. My system is i965, and I have latest git branches of everything. I updated then about week ago though, tomorrow will update again. This bug happens here.
If you're experiencing the same problem on intel hw then it could be a problem in core Mesa. Unfortunately without some simple testcase I don't think we will be able to track down and fix the bug.
I am closing this, and in my case, textures just appear and disapper, but don't flash with color. Other that that, this is similiar to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25027
Reopening: this could not be a game bug since it doesn't happen with r300/KMS or r300g, only with r300/UMS. If this reveals a mesa core bug or a drm core bug, please mark bug #25027 as a duplicate of this one and change this component according.
According to my test on an rv350, r300g of mesa 7.10 seems to be free of this bug. If r300c is no longer relevant, this report should be closed.
I think so too. Closing because r300c/UMS is no longer supported.
