not completely sure if this is possible, but the basic idea is something like
855resolution.  if the ddc info gives a native panel size, and the chip has
enough vesa-addressable ram, it would be nice to inject that mode into the vbios
and select it semimagically.

this would highly increase the DWIMminess of the vesa driver and make us more
likely to give a pleasant user experience even in the absence of accelerated
driver support.
